Home Groups
2011 HomeGroup Combination — [Download]
Home Groups are at the heart of Community. Home Groups meets every other week, usually in a group member’s home, for Bible study and to enjoy each others’ company and each group usually takes on its own personality. Some are made up of people that are similar in age while others consist of people that live in the same area of our community. We believe that relationships are vital to personal spiritual growth so we strongly encourage everyone to get involved in a Home Group.
Each group is a little different, but they are all laid back — people come together to enjoy the company of others and to encourage one another on their journey to be more like Christ, to lead transformed lives. To sign-up, contact Mark Kincannon at mark@communitychurch.com.
The Core Purposes of Home Groups
Source of Strength
The Bible exhorts us to care for one another (1 Corinthians 12:25). At Community, we hope that the primary line of defense for care will begin at the Home Group level. A Home Group cares for the basic physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the people in the Home Group. A large majority of all these needs are met through the people in Home Groups. Of course there are those at Community, that won’t be involved in Home Groups and those outside the church that have needs. These examples are also opportunities for us to respond with care.
Life Change
Jesus calls His followers to live radically different from the world’s standards. That pillar is as true today as it was when He walked the earth. Our lives should be constantly changing as we seek to pattern ourselves after Jesus. Each of us is different. It has been said that life change occurs when the truth of the Bible intersects with our daily lives. We believe that life change happens best when we are in relationships with other Christ followers who are being led by the Bible.
Building Relationships
We were not created to live life alone but to exist in Biblical community. The types of relationships that are built vary. Some relationships are between committed Christ followers others are made between followers of Christ and non-Christians. As we develop friendships with non-Christians they might be more willing to attend a small group than church on Sunday. We hope that our Home Groups will be places where men and women make decisions to trust and follow Jesus Christ, and that those decisions started with the foundation of a relationship.
Leadership Development
Our goal is simple: equip and empower men and women to be transform the world. We want Home Groups to be places where emerging leaders are recognized, equipped, and placed in environments where their talents can be used to spread the Gospel.
Impacting the Community
Jesus said, ”He came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45).” Impacting the community can be as simple as helping your neighbor carry in their groceries or as involved as an on-going relationship from which you expect nothing in return. At Community, there are many opportunities to harness the power of a Home Group to serve in ways that an individual could not. A meal for the hungry, home repairs for the elderly, yard and house work for the ill, the list goes on and on. Each time we do an act of service in the name of Jesus, He gets all the glory and glorifying Him is what we were all made for (Isaiah 43:7). Home Groups at Community are places where we are able to serve one another, our neighbors and perhaps even people we will never meet, all in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Study
The Home Group studies vary, but most groups will be discuss the Sermon from the previous Sunday morning worship service.
